Business and Investments Political Propaganda

Business Section of The Philippine Star

This section, you will note, provides a very encouraging coverage of the business climate in the Philippines. It shows large investments poured in to projects and programs by the private and government sectors designed to enhance national development and nation building and yet you will find out at the end of the day that nothing concrete has really come up or has been undertaken. If one should only believe on the news printed on the pages of the Business Section of The Philippine Star the Philippines which is a Third World Country would have turned into a First World Country in just a matter of one year. In other words it is all juicy and palatable reporting but with doubtful concrete outcome. In fact, although I am an avid reader of the said newspaper, I feel lousy every time I have to read some headlined topics in this section because I know the information written are all exaggerations. That out of the 10 that has been published perhaps only 1 may have materialized. Seemingly, one could suspect that the section is only used as a political tool to advance some personal and governmental interests at the expense of the citizens and the public. Very often the ones being reported for public consumption are big ticket projects of the government and the private sector that are intended for implementation and are expected to raise public interest, expectations and hopes and likewise get their loyalty, sympathy and support to the published programs and projects of the government. And so the public would hope and wait to see the realization of these large ticket projects only to find out later that it is hounded by technical and political problems such as the shady deal in getting the contract, alleged graft and corruption involving high government officials in their desire to get fat commissions at the expense of the tax payers, and subsequently the complete stalling and cancellation of the project that has actually turned into a white elephant and become a burden to the innocent people at large. I guess, the Business Section, should be more prudent in publishing articles that are sure to be undertaken and realized by the proponents. Otherwise, the said news items will only become a propaganda instrument of interested parties at the expense of the buying public and the unsuspecting readers.
